Back in the here & now…

I know that frustrating feeling because I was once in the same place, caught in the endless cycle of constantly second-guessing my efforts. I just wanted to give him a creative, holistic education.
Seven years ago, despite trying everything I could get my hands on, nothing seemed to help my child learn, focus or feel confident. What I didn’t realize for far too long, was that neither of us were the problem!
We were just using the wrong tools & methods.

This is my story. Can you relate ?
>
My sweet boy grips the pencil so hard, his little knuckles turn white, tears roll quietly down his nose & splatter on the paper, his little body hunched up in a desperate attempt to stay seated while labouring over what he knows should be a simple task.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity for us both, he slides his paper towards me – there are only a few words & yet it has taken everything from him to scratch them deep into the paper. His hands ache, his heart is heavy & he feels like a failure – he doesn’t say a word, but his hanging head cuts me to the quick.
He was nine, with a memory like a steel trap, an interest in complex subjects usually reserved for those twice his age & here he was after years of lessons & hours of desperate attempts to improve – with the printing of a three-year-old.
The worst part?
He couldn’t even read those simple words back to me.
And still, we continued, he & I – how could we not ?
We bravely tried curriculum after curriculum, exercise upon exercise & one method after another – nothing worked. What I didn’t know then was that I’d been trying to do things in the wrong order, with inadequate tools & without a true understanding of what was really going on inside him.
I was trying my best & yet I couldn’t shake the sinking feeling that I was making things worse for him.

Recognizing I wouldn’t find what we needed because it simply didn’t exist…
I set out to create a method unlike any I’ve ever seen.
I began researching, reading voraciously, experimenting while constantly pulling ideas from here & possibilities from there, weaving them together into an entirely new approach.

Within a short time, we experienced remarkable results!

My child now reads, writes & learns happily with me as well as on his own. We’ve witnessed quantum leaps, one after the other in his academics, his increased sense of self-worth, deeper self-expression & ability to finally feel at home in his body.
Buoyed up by the results we had, I began teaching my Tapestry Teaching method to others about five years ago.
This simple, highly-effective method works with any child but is particularly well-suited to children who learn & experience the world in different ways – who are “late” readers, struggle with sensory issues, ones who just “can’t sit still” & others who don’t seem to absorb anything at all.
These are the children who can end up wearing damaging, negative labels or carrying heavy, life-long diagnoses. They’re just little, they don’t deserve to be boxed-in & misunderstood !
I designed this educational framework specifically for women like us. We face daily challenges in our teaching which others don’t understand. We keep looking for a better way because we know we can’t give up on our children.

The main idea of The MAKING Child Masterclass is that you will be taught the material as you will teach it

Each LIVE Masterclass is an unique opportunity to learn, experiment, explore & exchange with other teachers (public & home) in a warm, informal, positive environment. During the day, we will weave between lecture sessions & Q & A to hands-ON exercises & making times.
There will be fully-illustrated power-point trainings, many demonstrations & samples to view, times to try your hand at several handwork crafts (knitting, weaving, sewing, felt-work & others), periods where you can work on designing your own hands-ON lesson plan(s) & plenty of space to soak it all up!
We will break for morning & afternoon tea/coffee & there will be a lunch break during which time you can view other’s work, discuss or just kick back & bask in the delicious energy of being surrounded by so many amazing makers!
If you’ve enrolled with a VIRTUAL Masterclass PASS, you will be able to watch as much or little as you wish during the livestreamed portions of your event. There will be 2 LIVE Masterclasses & both will be filmed by Callie Lasch, a professional filmmaker & founder of The Institute for Therapeutic Craft & Creativity.
The teaching portions of both Masterclasses will be transmitted LIVE & you can watch from anywhere in the world. If you opt for a Masterclass Virtual PASS, you will receive your login information & scheduled airing times, closer to the date of your class.
Simply choose which dates you prefer (see below) & then purchase your pass for that masterclass. This will allow you access to join us live (via Crowdcast) on those dates, ask questions & participate in the chat. The main content in both Masterclasses will be the same, however, the conversations, projects made & questions asked will obviously differ, since the participants will be different!
